Brisbane is a modern city of approximately 2 million people, located on a major river close to the sea. It is the capital of the state of Queensland, home of the Great Barrier Reef and Australia's World Heritage tropical rainforests. The Brisbane CBD is a very compact area of around 2 sq km with many highrise buildings, constrained within a river bend. It is well served by public transport including suburban train and bus services, and ferries. The CBD is encircled by inner city suburbs, which offer many restaurants with a wide variety of cuisines. Further suburban settlement extends for 40km radius to reach the shores of Moreton Bay and foothills of nearby mountain ranges. Brisbane has a major international airport, which is well served by daily arrival flights from Asia, Europe and North America.
